The symptoms of mono may not manifest for everyone who contracts the Epstein-Barr virus. But when are symptoms serious? And when should you seek medical help?...
Hey everyone! I am a 30 year old woman who was diagnosed with Mono 7 weeks ago. I had no symptoms except for bulging lymph nodes on my neck, one of which was visible. After several blood tests and a CAT scan of my neck I was told I had Mono even though I had NO other symptoms. One week after being diagnosed I landed in the hospital with a kidney stone which had to be surgically removed. Now for the past 10 days I have been suffering with severe joint and muscle pain mainly in my back, hands, and feet. Also have abdominal/nausea with this. PCP drew blood and a rapid flu test. Flu test came back negative and blood tests were all negative. I went to my OB/GYN because I had a discharge and irritation in this area as well. Dr told me that I had a non-sexually transmitted viral infection and gave me an anti-biotic, however, she told me this still doesn't explain the joint/muscle pain. My PCP called and told me that one of the blood tests had not come in with the others and that my SED levels were elevated. I was told to come back in one month to retest my SED levels. Pain is pretty bad and hard to move. Are high SED levels normal with MONO? And could this actually be something more severe? Thanks for your help ~Megan
