I had mono when I was 15 for about three months. Ever since then I have felt tired all the time. When I get sick it seems to last longer than it should for me to get better. I am 29 now and was recently diagnosed with pernicious anemia. My body doesn't absorb B12 and I now have to take injections to get the supply I need. Many of the symptoms of pernicious anemia are similar to what some of the others here have described (fatigue, dizzyness, confusion, numbness, muscle and nerve pain). I was just wondering if anyone else here has had their B12 levels checked and if there was any connection between mono and pernicious anemia.

Thanks,
Jenn

hmmmm
Well, I have just recently wondered if I had a B12 deficiency as well. I was diagnosed in March/April this year with mono and was told again last week that I have a flare up of the mono. However, my biggest symptom is GERD, or reflux. That's where you get acid in your stomach and heartburn. I did not have this at all until the mono. They put me on Antacid medications which I have taken since then and they barely touch it, but I found out that these medications can inhibit your body's ability to absorb B12. A B12 deficiency can cause the arhtritis and burning pains I had in my fingers and toes. So today I'm going to the doctor armed with my information and hoping I'll have an open-minded low ego doc who will help me. Have you taken any antacids?
