I have had a mole on my shoulder for a while now. It has changed over the last couple of years. Stupid me never went and got it checked by a Dr. I now have an appointment, but I can't get in until January (1st available appointment for a new patient). A while ago it crusted over and cracked and started bleeding. It healed and now it is crusting over and scaly and seems like it is going to start bleeding again like the 1st time. It is the color of my skin, maybe a little pinkish, with a dark freckle. It is raised a little also. Can anyone here give me insight to this mole. I got freaked out when my co-worker went to her appointment and brought me a brochure as she thought the one that was BCC in the brochure looked just like mine with the same symptoms. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi ashkaymak and welcome to ehealth: See a Dermatologist...They will take a biopsy and be able to give you a more qualified opinion...From what you say, this does sound suspect....However, the time frame between now and January should not cause any harm...If it is a Melanoma, they do grow very slow...But, please check it out...Take care...

Thank you so much for your reply! I am looking all over the internet to get more information, but of course what I find is so scary. My Dad died 5 years ago of colon cancer. It was diagnosed in late December and by the beginning of April he had passed away. I guess I am terrified that they will tell me I have some form of cancer. I never want my name associated with this disease, but I also want to make sure if I get it I can treat it.

Hi,
I would like to advise you to make an appointment faster if possible. Check for another dermotologist or visit centres that deals with mole determination. B/c it would definitely ease your mind and - what is examined earlier, that is easier to cure and treat. Your description really suits all the symptoms (I don`t want to worry you), but it can turn out to be nothing to worry for such a long time.
So, if possible, visit a doctor sooner then later.
Take care!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I went to see the Dermatologist and it is skin cancer. I have BCC. Luckily, it is BCC and not Melanoma. They took some of it while I was there, but they called me a week after the tests came back and told me they didn't get it all and I will be going in on March 2nd so they can remone the rest of it. I was so shocked by the diagnosis that I forgot to have him look at 2 moles that are on my forehead. He will be looking at those when I go in March. My advise to anyone who is on here wondering if their mole is cancerous...go now and get it checked. I waited way to long to have this checked and now I wonder what damage it has done to me. I have had this mole for at least 8 years and now I wish I would have done things differently, but of course it is to late.
