I'm getting repeatedly bitten while sleeping in bed at night (very itchy raised red spots), so I called a bed bug exterminator. He came to inspect and found no signs of bed bugs, but he noticed the a/c unit above the bed blows out some dust and suggested that the biting insect is some kind of dust mite. Does this make sense? Any idea what kind of insect could be living in the a/c unit and leaving itchy bites?

Yes! they are of the mite family and referred to as Biting mites and their hatchlings can occupy your body and then you've got scabies. Clean & wash AC filters regularly and spray the AC condenser with a chemical such as lysol even windex. Also wash bed linen clothing and even curtains etc. in hot water and after spin drying and whilst they are damp, microwave them for 30 seconds each side by flipping over and to avoid them biting, mix 150g. salt in 5 litres or so of warm water and using a facecloth apply from head to toe, every time, soon after your bath also, follow a diet like Manna/candida) to balance your pH as you could be more acidic than alkaline as an acidic condition invites fungus and more sugar and starch you intake will make them grow rapidly which in turn attracts the mites to you but the creatures hate salt water so you will notice the bites diminishing daily after application. It really works !!
