Q: Missed 2 pills 3rd week

I’ve been using birth control pills for about 3 years. I am using Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo. I missed 2 dark blue active pills in the 3rd week of the pack: on Monday (3/9) and Tuesday (3/10) of this week. I read the instructions for missing two pills in the 3rd week and I will continue to take one pill each day until Sunday (3/15), throw away what’s remaining in the pack, and start a new pack on Sunday. The problem is I forgot that I used my last refill of bc and my obgyn will not prescribe more bc until I have a pap exam (must have a pap exam every six months while on bc). The next available appointment is Monday 3/16, so I went ahead and took that appointment knowing that I would have to double up on Monday to make up for Sunday. But today my period has started (or maybe just spotting) because of the missed pills. My obgyn will not perform a pap exam if you are on your period, so she may not write me a prescription for bc until I reschedule my appointment when I am not on my period.

So my question is, if I am unable to continue with a new pack of pills this Sunday 3/15, would it be ok if I start the new pack on the following Sunday 3/22, provided I am able to meet with my obgyn and get a prescription before then? Will the bc be effective after the first week of starting the new pack? I am a Sunday starter and I will be using a back up bc. I plan to call my obgyn tomorrow to inquire about this also. Thanks for your help

Yes, you can start the new pack on the following Sunday (3/22) and it will be effective after the first week of starting the new pack. A new pack of pills is always supposed to start being effective after one week. However, it is not great for your body to go a week without being on the pills because it is so used to taking them, so it would be better to get the pack this Sunday (3/15). You may be just spotting but you also may have gotten your period, because that can happen if you miss a few pills in a row. I'm sure if you explain this situation to your obgyn she may even give you a sample pack for free, mine did. Let me know how it goes!
