Q: Missed 2 pills after sex

I take my birth control pill every morning around 8 AM. I recently had unprotected sex on a Friday around 1 AM (so technically I guess you would call that Saturday). I had taken Friday's pill at 8 AM that morning. After sex, I missed the Saturday pill and the Sunday pill. I didn't realize I had missed both of these until Monday morning and then I took them. I read my packet with my pills and all it said about missing 2 or more pills was to use back-up contraception for the next 7 days after restarting my pills.

I'm wondering though if I could have a chance of being pregnant from missing 2 pills the days directly AFTER having unprotected sex. I know sperm can live inside of you for 3-5 days. So is there a chance that I could have ovulated on the second day I missed my pill, and the sperm could have still been alive. Is there a chance I could be pregnant?

It depends to a large extent on what pill you are using. Some pills interfere with the egg and its release, some prevent implanting of a fertilized egg in the uterus by changing the uterus lining and some thicken the cervical mucus so that sperm can not get into the uterus. Some pills combine any number of these.

Some pills are also low dose pills and does not give any protection past the 24v hours.

In my opinion it is unlikely that you will be pregnant. Take better care with your routine. You are taking the pill to prevent pregnancy, not gamble with it!
