Q: Missed period over 5 months due to Birth Control?

About 2 years ago, My doctor perscribed me YAZ/Yasmin Birth control to regulate my hormone levels because I had really bad cramps to the point where I threw up sometimes. It helped a little, and I wouldn't take as much pain killer as I did before. However, I noticed a dramatic weight gain and I got really horrible migranes also, So my mom wanted me to stop taking it. I got off it for 3 months and my period only came once, and my doctor reccomended the patch, So I was on it for 7 months, and then I stopped again. I stopped in July 2008, and had a regular period from August-October 2008. Now it is April 2009 and I haven't had my period since October. I am terrified, actually. However I took 2 pregnecy test and all came out negative, my body feels normal but I dont know whats happening. Can anyone help me? Do you believe its because I went on and off with the birth control? Is there any way, I can have a regular cycle without the birth control?

Hm... Have you been to a obgyn lately?

Birth control can cause some irregularities, but those go away once the hormones are no longer in your system.

How regular were you before you were put on birth contrl?

BC - Yaz
More than likely it's due to Yaz. When you are on Yaz, you only have a period like every 3 months. I was on Yaz 4 years ago (I stopped taking it one day because it was making me have headaches and bad chests pains). After I quit taking it, I didn't have a period for awhile. Then again it could be because you took so much contraceptives and was off and on all kinds. And sometimes pissed periods are due to stress. Being really stressed out can make you miss your periods. But if you keep going without any periods, definitely see your OBGYN and tell s/he whats going on.

I would go to a gyno.

At the very least they may be able to give you something to kick start your cycle again. You may be put back on birth control for that, but it wouldn't be for very long.

I was also on yaz until this jan of 09. I had my last period the end of jan and haven't had one since. I am having other symptoms though. White clear liquidy discharge with a smell. I have taken 3 tests and all have come back negative. I am not prone to normal periods and it is common for me to skip 3-4 months. I have not gone this long without a period before and am worried I could be pregnant. I am overweight, but have recently lost 20 lbs. I was stressed out for a few months due to a break up. I am just wondering if all of this is contributing to my missed periods.. If you have any answers please let me know! Thanks!
