Q: miscarriage symptoms ?

Last Friday i had what i think was a miscarriage. I had taken a pregnancy test on thurs and it came out positive. then i took another friday morning which was negative. i was confused! My period was 5 days late at this point. I was shopping later that day and i went to use the restroom and i noticed pink when i wiped. i looked in the toilet and saw a whitish, clear, pinkish tissue in the toilet. it even had a cord coming from it which would be like the umbilical cord i guess. i was so devastated. i figured i would have been 5 weeks based on my last period. my husband and i were trying to conceive, and we have a healthy 2 yr old with no previous miscarriages or complications. starting Saturday i was bleeding pretty heavily with clots, and i had a ton of pressure with cramps in my abdomen all day. i am now still bleeding ( 4 days since the miscarriage) and it has been like a normal period with normal cramps. Does this sound like a miscarriage to anyone? I have searched and searched, and it seems like every womans story is different. Just wondering if mine is similar to anyone elses.

It sounds as if that was a false positive. Pregnancy hormones hang around for a few weeks after you've miscarried. They don't appear one day and disappear the next.

Additionally, anything you could have 'lost' at 5 days late for your period, would have been so small that you could not have distinguished it from other tissue that would be with it.

It sounds like your period was late to me.

yeah i agree with ingi. after you have a miscarriage you can have a positive pregnancy test up to three weeks afterwards. it sounds to me like you did have a miscarriage, and if it was at 4-5 weeks the baby is literally about the size of half a grain of rice so what you saw wouldnt have been the ambilical cord. what you need to do is go for a scan to make sure the miscarriage was complete. sorry to hear what happened its very disteressing let alone in your situation, like not knowing. go to the doctors and ask him to book you in for a scan asap.

thanks for your help! you mentioned that i wouldnt be able to see anything at only 5 weeks, but i did search for pictures of a 5 week gestation fetus and it was about the size that i saw. it ws like a marble or a peanut m&m. so i really do think that i had miscarriage, but i cant explain the neg test that day. however, i have noticed in my searching online that miscarriages can result in a sudden drop of pregnancy hormones even just in hours to where a home preg test cant detect it. no matter what happened whether i did or didnt have a miscarriage, my hopes are still up for getting pregnant again! and hopefully soon.

You need to go see your doctor. Any miscarriage needs to be checked out.

i have read that as long as you stop bleeding shortly after your body has flushed everything out on its own and no need to see a dr. because so many people have miscarriages that early and didnt even know they were pregnant. but im gonna wait and see, im pretty much done bleeding already, and i feel fine! all preg symptoms are gone and i am ready to try again!

That isn't necessarily true. If you feel you had a miscarriage you really should see your doctor.

Edited to add: Why not see your doctor anyway for a pre-pregnancy check up. WAY better to be safe.

No. Pregnancy hormones stay in your body. If you were pregnant, your doctor would know.

so i just took a home pregnancy test and it came up negative, SO i am relieved that my levels are back to being low again and i am going to start trying again! wish me luck! and good luck to all of you who are having similar problems, and thanks to all who have helped me with my situation. i know i should have probably gone to have a dr check me out, but i think i was just too afraid of having it confirmed that it was indeed a miscarriage. this way i can look to the future and not worry as much about it happening again. however, if this ever does happen again, i am for sure going to the dr, but i have read many cases where they had one miscarriage and got pregnant right away with a healthy baby and a healthy pregnancy. so like i said wish me luck, and you all are in my prayers!
