Q: Mirena use

Hello,
I am engaged to be married and have been exploring my BC options, I do not plan on having kids until I'm around 27 years of age( I am currently 22). I have been looking into getting a Mirena IUD but it says its appropriate for women who have already had kids, do you have to have had a kid to get this particular IUD? Also, is it put in in a regular office setting/ visit or does it require surgery?
All answers will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Brittany

IUD without babies
I've had a Mirena IUD for almost two years, and have never had a baby. It's just about finding the right doctor. Some will only do it for women who have given birth because their cervix is stretched more than a woman who has never had a baby. Just be prepared for it to hurt! It is like having some of the worst cramps you've ever had, and it lasts for up to 3 months after IUD placement. Anyway, call different doctors and find one that will do it. I went to a nurse midwife who does a lot of them, and she was really great. If you can get past the first few months of cramps and spotting it is so worth it!
