Q: Mirena IUD and tattoos

I got a Mirena several months ago. Last week I got a tattoo done on my lower back (a larger coverup piece). It seemed to be healing like a normal tattoo, but now I'm getting these odd pains in my lower back and in my front as well - just about the same as menstral cramps. I'm a little worried that the tattoo may have effected the Mirena in some way; although I don't see how this could be...

Does anyone have any insight into this at all? Should I be worried or am I jsut being paranoid?

There is no way that a tattoo will affect birth control =)

I got cramps with mirena too. Your experience is a result of the mirena and has nothing to do with the tatoo.

I had mirena and a tattoo. Nothing bad happened! The tattoo ink stays in your skin, it won't go anywhere that has to do with the mirena.

The cramping is from the Mirena, NOT the tattoo. I got Mirena and the cramping in these areas doesn't really go away for me. I've had Mirena for almost 2 years now.

I got a tattoo just last month and nothing abnormal.

My cramping started several months after getting Mirena inserted. Ended up having massive problems with it over the past 3 years and had to be removed! If the cramping gets worse talk to your doctor. Sometimes the side effects of Mirena aren't worth using it itself.
