Q: Mirena insertion

I just had the mirena IUD inserted Friday. My hubby and I decided to wait at least another year before ttc our second child. I've heard so many horror stories about horrible bleeding for months after having it inserted.

Well, is it normal to barely bleed at all. I spotted the day I had it inserted-I was on my period the day before-but since then I haven't bled at all.

Also, how long does it take before the sensation of having something in my uterus goes away. It's almost like it felt when my uterus started stretching with my daughter.

Thanks!

Personally, I bled for 7 months straight upon insertion.
I kept Mirena for 2 years before having it removed. The feeling that something is there never went away for me. I also had a lot of other side effects including moodiness, depression, abnormal cycle, pain, no libido, etc.

My doctor told me that it was normal for no bleeding to occur, for spotting, and also prolonged bleeding.
So, I think you're fine.

I'm just so paranoid about this being inside me. I hope it goes well. I really want it to work. Our insurance covered it completely so it will save us $300 over the next year.

They say that as long as you can feel the threads, you're fine.

If you start developing symptoms of discomfort, please go to the doctor. It's not worth the pain just because it's 'worry free'.

I managed 2 years of discomfort and the day I had it removed I felt 100% better.

Tell your husband not to be alarmed if he can feel the threads during intercourse.

Mirena
I have had the Mirena in for a year now, and I haven't had a period at all, which is normal. I read a question from here from a woman asking why she can't have Mirena put in when she hasn't had any children, and the answer is because if your uterus were to get an infection after inserting the Mirena, you could become sterile. That is why they prefere you to have a child first

I was told it was because the uterus of a woman who hasn't had children isn't stretched enough versus the uterus of a woman who has had children.

mirena IUD - why poeple without kids don't get them as easily
im getting a mirena in 2 days and i haven't had any kids. I have bad endometriosis though so i'm getting it to help slow down the endometriosis growth. The reason they normally don't give it to people without kids is due to the cervix not having been properly dialated before, making it difficult and more painful for them to insert the mirena. hope they give me laughing gas or something...

Hi im thinking about getting mirena inserted but i have not had a kid yet. How did the insertion go for you? Im really worried over how much they said it would hurt, anything you can tell me would make me feel alot better.

k so i got it on wednesday - i'm not going to lie, i hurt REALLY bad. but i don't want to freak you out, i'm really glad i got it now. SO the gyno said it'll be fine, etc mild discomfort etc, but it felt like, the worst pain ever. i was sweating and throwing up and i thought i was going to die. and the majority of that day i was in the hospital at the clinic coz the pain was so bad, but the gyno said mine was a very rare case and that he's never seen it before (even though he's an endo specialist and encourages ALL his patients to get mirena). So this would be VERY unlikely to happen for you, alhtough even if it does, a few days of pain for 5 years of no worry is worth it for me. So hopefully this helps, yes it hurts, and yes it sucks but i dunno, i would definitly still recommend it. Although i'm still a bit turned off the idea of babies if that hurt and people say labor hurts more!
p.s. you can ask for some strong pain relief such as pethidine if you want (if the clinic is nice and empathetic) or anything they are willing to give, i did it with only voltarin and would say something stronger is necessary if you havent had kids.

Mirena
I got mine done yesterday and im only fifteen and haven't a child yet either. My mom wanted me to get it because She doesnt want me pregnant I've only had sex twice with my boyfriend of two years and i wanted to take every precaution. I had really sharp pains when my gyno inserted mirena. She made me really relaxed and told me what she was doing the whole time. It hurt so bad i almost cried. I took 600mg of ibuprofen before i went and after. I'm really glad i got this instead of the implanon that goes in your arm. Also I'm still kinda crampy but that could be my period. but idk. Just talk to your doctor and make sure your relaxed it helped me a lot. Smile

it hurt me...
Well I had mine inserted the day before yesterday, I'm spotting, but it's weird, its like blood mixed with pus...no pain at all now. The inserion was hooooorrible! it hurt a lot, almost traumatic. I have a two year old and had her via c-section which left my cervix like if I never had a child. The doctor explained it was painful because the guide to place the device was bigger than my cervix. For women whe had children vaginally should not be as painfull. Hope this help...
