Q: Mirena and use of OCP

I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if there is any contraindication to using Mirena and an OCP simultaneously? I am wondering because I had my IUD inserted in February of this year and I have been having bleeding quite a bit and the physician wanted me to take an OCP with the Mirena to help this. I am just wondering if this is a common practice and if so what type of OCP is safe? Thanks
