I had a Mirena placed one year ago, my gyn knew that I was HPV positive. Recently, I had a Pap test that came back with Ascus with HPV results. I have a colposcopy scheduled already. My question is simple: Should I have the Mirena removed?

My mother had cervical cancer at age 22--I only mention this because the family history is there.

Thanks so much!

Cervical cancer is not hereditary. It is caused by the HPV virus that is transmitted sexually.

I don't know why you would need to have the mirena removed. Does your gyn recommend it?
