I am looking for some guidance and advice on how to deal with the after effects of a minor stroke. My mother aged 62, who is heavily overweight and who previously suffered from high blood pressure and arthritis suffered a minor stroke just over a year ago. Since this time, whilst being slightly confused now and again, is also very aggressive and nasty towards a lot of members within our family unit. We were always a really close family until this time, over the past year, she constantly makes up really wild stories about family members and is happy to cause trouble between myself and my two sisters. She is also really nasty to her two sisters who were always her best friends. This is causing a lot of angst and resentment amongst family members and we have been driven apart by this. We are honestly at the end of our tether and it is getting to the stage no-one wants to be in her company. I have a 21 month old son and dread taking him to visit her due to this.

I would welcome any advice you could offer on this matter

Personality changes are very common after a stroke or mini stroke.
Some of them can disappear after a certain time, but, some stay as permanent changes.
It is good to know that even a single stroke can lead to dementia, and one of the symptoms is having difficulty controlling moods or behaviors (agitation or aggression may occur, too).
Stroke induced dementia is known as vascular dementia and its symptoms appear on suddenly.
