Q: Migraine pain ?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 8th, 2009
I have recently been getting what I think is a migraine - just need it to be confirmed. I get a pain generally at the top of my head to the right and then behind my right eye, it often goes down into my neck and then different spots in my head, it makes me become flushed and feel slightly nauseated. Almost like pins and needles or the shivers I get aswell. When I was younger I found a lump on the top of my head it was xray'd and it was a little lump in my skull nothing exciting but there is where the pain starts. I dont know if it happens when I become over tired or dehydrated...I think it is a migraine it just scares me, what do you think?

Headache and Migraines Answer A6012

According to the data you provided, you might be experiencing migraine. Migraine is a neurological syndrome characterized by altered bodily perceptions, headaches, and nausea.
Diagnosing migraine without aura, according to the International Headache Society, can be made according to the following criteria, the "5, 4, 3, 2, 1 criteria":
• 5 or more attacks
• 4 hours to 3 days in duration
• 2 or more of - unilateral location, pulsating quality, moderate to severe pain, aggravation by or avoidance of routine physical activity
• 1 or more accompanying symptoms - nausea and/or vomiting, photophobia, phonophobia
For migraine with aura, only two attacks are required to confirm the diagnosis.
You might want to try to detect the triggers and then avoid them. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs might be helpful to reduce the pain. If none of the mentioned helps, you might want to visit a neurologist to test for other causes of the pain you experience.
