I have been in on going pain from my migraine headaches for about a year now. I used to get migraines every once and a while back in highschool but now it has turned in to a chronic problem. I cannot operate when i get them. I get them so bad I start to have horrible hallucinations, excruciation pain, vomiting...basically hell! I have tried many preventative medications all of which have not helped me. The only one that works sometimes is Maxalt. I get about 2 to 3 migraine headaches a week. My life has been seriously interrupted by this...is seems like i am always in pain. I run my own videography biz shooting weddings and events and when i get a migraine in the middle of shooting it seriously effects my work...the amount of work i can take in...which means that i cannot make as much money. I have been struggling to make my bills each month because of these damn migraines! So this summer I was filming my cousins wedding when i started to see an aura in my vision so i new it was coming. I was all out of Maxalt so i asked my grandma if she had any medication. She gave me one of her Oxycontins...the oxycontin helped so much! It took the pain away and kept it away. IT WAS SERIOUSLY LIKE A MIRACLE FOR ME!!! I finally found a medication that works! Something that i can take that will let me still function with migraine headaches. So I go to a Neurologist and ask him to prescribe it...HE TELLS ME NO! and gives me depekote...which like usual did not work...so i ask my regular doc. and he also tells me that he doesn't like to prescribe that medication. So i have been looking for a doc that will with no luck. I can't afford to keep looking, i have a bad medical insurance that leaves me to pay all these doctor visits. This is seriously the most frustrating thing that i have ever been through. Why can't anyone understand what hell i am in and that this medication is the only thing that has ever given me hope that i can live a normal life again. What can i do, or where can i go to get this medication? And why doesn't anyone prescribe it? PLEASE HELP! I am seriously losing hope that i will ever get through this.

migraine headaches
I go to a neurologist: Headache specialist.
Maxalt helps me some too, for my Migraines. Have you tried Topamax? A preventative med. for Migraines? My friend does well taking it and helping to prevent Migraines. It made me so sick, and I could not tolerate the side sffects. Most Dr.s, usually do not like to prescribe Oxycontins, mine, did with limited refills; however, pain meds, do not seem to help me anymore. I tend to have so many rebound headaches. You may have to be referred to a Pain Management Doctor. I also have Occipital Neuralgia, and was referred to one for facet nerve root blocks under sedation. They will prescribe more meds.; many will make you sign a contract to only have pain meds prescribed by them,etc....I threw all mine at the top of my closet...Dec. 2008,I built up a resistancee to them after I had a recent C-5,C-6, Cervical Diskectomy and fusion(neck). Good Luck, D.White sunny

migraines
Have you tried imitrex? It is not a preventatitve med but it usually gets rid of my migraines within 1 hour or less. Also you can try the Headon sticks you can get at drug stores over the counter they seem to help me also which dr. said is because the stimulate blood vessels. If you decide to try imitrex my advice would be to try it when you are at home the first time because it does cause some nausea and dizziness which I was unprepared for the first time I took it and was at work. Now I hardly even notice those side effects and it is a small price to pay for relief from the pain.

Migraines: Caution Imitrex/Sulfa allergy
I can not take Imitrex for it has a Sulfa compound and had an allergic reaction. I was not informed by Pharmacist. Did my own search to find out what was in Imitrex..Just like Celebrex: has a sulfa in it. I'm highly sensitive/allergic to Sulfa...D.White
