Yes, insurance covers a midwife. They are more hands on and will be with you through your entire labor. Where a doctor will only come in occassionally and be there for the actual birth.

Check with your doctor and see what hospitals he delivers at - then you can check with the hospital to see if they offer a tub or a water birth.

To make sure your midwife would be covered by your insurance plan, call the insurance and see who they have in their plan. Your mom will have the number to the insurance and maybe even a booklet that tells you who is covered and what you are personally covered for.

There are a lot of insurance plans that do not cover children's pregnancy. That is meant to say that your mom's insurance may not cover your pregnancy. And chances are very good that they will not cover your child at all. You'll need to find your own insurance for your child. Being a single mom though, you'll probably qualify for medicaid.

O I found out the other day that my dads insurance cover all my pregnancy and birth but after Rylan takes his first breath anything after that for him isnt. SO I have to get him signed up NOW for a medical card, other wise he wount be covered and I will have to pay for anything after he breaths. You may want to find out abou that also.

Yeah, it works that way. But getting him onto medicaid shouldn't be too hard.

My sister had a water birth at home. She had midwife and doula (which pretty much acts as your assistant through out the birthing proccess). My mom and I were in the room with her, her husband, and two children. She never yelled or cried. It was the most peaceful birth I've ever seen. Hope that helps. Very Happy

You need to go to your local Department of Social and Health Services office. You'll need your birth certificate, your social security card, etc.

Most insurance won't pay for it. It is generally an out of pocket expense.
