Hi guys! I just started on my first job, which is pretty much a desk bound job at a computer. However lately after the job I've realized that I have upper back pain coming particularly from both sides of my spine along my upper back, near the base of the shoulder blade. I did a bit of searching and think its possibly a strain on the trapezius muscle, the 'tail' bit of it near the end between shoulder blade and spine.

Have included a diagram with the area of pain marked out roughly in blue, hope one of the image link codes work. My question is why is there pain from this particular area? (Most back pain literature I saw deals with lower back pain or pain in the shoulders) are there any exercises or stretches that will ease the tension specifically in that area of the trap, because it's kinda hard to stretch? Any help will be much much appreciated! Thanks!

Aloha,
You have overworked your upper back muscles from sitting
at your desk in poor posture. If you are leaning forward at all in your chair, you are holding your head
up with your upper back/neck muscles. Your shoulders
are supposed to touch the back of your chair. YOu need
to stretch out the muscles and change your work place
so its more user friendly. The DVD stretch away pain
at your desk is a must for anyone who works at the
computer.
Good luck,
ALoha, mary

If you are still having pain, try going to the chiropractor a few times. You will be amazed how much better you feel. Some offices have message therapists who can work those areas that are bothering you. You will probably need to make a few trips to feel better. Anytime i have back pain, shoulder pain, foot pain and etc... the chiropractor can help with this. You may also have a pinched nerve. We all get them sooner or later so you have nothing to lose by going. Feel better soon.
