I have a mid-back, trapezius injury. I've had back injuries in the past, this isn't too bad. I still have my full range of motion (old physical therapy stretches), but it doesn't seem to be getting better. A little over a week now. The main thing is I can't stand in one place for more than a minute or two without pain. I stretch it-- i get 2 more minutes. 800mg Motrin doesn't help much or at all. Heating pad 3Xday 15-20 minutes.
In the past, pain relief meds and muscle relaxants have been given to me...pain goes way lying down or sitting down.
Would muscle relaxants help the healing process? I don't think I need them for pain, but if it would speed healing...
Sorry to hear about the pain that you are having. I have the same difficulty of not being able to stand in one location for more than "a minute or two without pain". For me it is due to a multitude of things.
Josh, I would highly recommend that you seek the advice of a spinal surgeon. Do some research and find the very best one you can in your area. Make that appointment and get his/her medical opinion. It would be advisable to also have some x-ray and and MRI images taken.
Regarding pain meds - I've been down that path and didn't like it. Most pain meds only cover up the pain and do NOTHING to resolve what is causing the pain. Most are also very addictive and can ruin your life more than the back pain itself. At least this was true for me.
Do seek medical help from a spinal surgeon. They are the most knowledgable about spinal issues.
