Q: Metronidazole during second trimester of pregnancy

Thank you for reading my question. I got Bacterial Vaginosis during 8th week of my pregnancy. My ob/gyn prescribed me oral as well as vaginal Clindamycin for three weeks. However, since my symptoms persisted and I was out of my first trimester, she prescribed me Metronidazole vaginal cream to apply for 5 nights. Since I do have a history of BV, she said that we need to make sure that it does not re-occur. For that, she asked me to apply one dosage of vaginal metronidazole each week for the next 2 months. I wanted to know how does using Metronidazole effect my baby? Can it cause any problems for the fetus? I would greatly appreciate any feedback that I can get on this. Thank you so much!
