Hello and welcome to eHealth Forum!

Generally metformin is a well tolerated drug and controls blood sugar well too. Hence it is a drug of choice for high blood sugar.

The usual side effects are diarrhea, vomiting, headache, nausea, symptoms of high blood sugar (increased hunger, thirst, and urination; blurring of vision), symptoms of low blood sugar (sweating, dizziness, loss of coordination etc) and rash. There are many such non serious side effects, none of which have been reported to be serious and reported to be under control after a few doses or with medication. Hope this helps. Take care!
