Q: Metatarsus Adductus

I experience pain in my feet to the point of making me hobble when I walk for more than half an hour or so. The problem has exacerbated with my gain in weight. A podiatrist diagnosed me as having metatarsus adductus and apparently there is nothing that can be done as I am too old for this type of surgery and even orthotics cannot be made to help. I have lived for more than half a century with these feet and they look the same as everybody elses as far as I can see. They did not start giving me trouble until I started putting on weight. So how can they have been deformed all these years and neither my mother nor myself have any idea of it? It seems a bit weird to me. Does anyone have any ideas about this problem?
