The MIBG scan is a useful scan procedure that reveals certain tumors eg Neuroblastomas, pheochromocytomas and other Neuroendocrine tumors.
This is a whole body scan for detection of primary tumor and also its metastases else where.
This scan is done where sequential images at the physician's discretion are acquired in Nuclear Medicine/Radiology Department where the patient is injected the Radioactive medicine(I123/I31 MIBG) IV.
This scan also helps to decide whether the patient with above diseases who are inoperable or have distant spread (metastases) of the tumor so these patients can also be treated using MIBG(tagged to I131).
Thanks for your query.
