Q: Met wife thru internet

How many people here have met their wife/husband, significant other, boyfriend/girlfriend via the internet?

I did... my wife. The internet can be a wonderful tool for meeting people. If it hadn't been for the internet, we would have never met as we didn't work together, live in the same area, do the same things, or any of the other usual circumstances that tend to bring people together.

At first, we were a little embarrassed to tell people how we actually met each other. But now we tell everyone as its a great story and becoming more and more common.

Before meeting my wife, I also met a number of other very nice ladies, via the internet. Some I dated for a while, but just didn't fall in love with. I think its a terrific way for those us who have or had limited options on meeting members of the opposite sex.

Lucky
I had met my ex on the internet, a dating site.
We first chatted a lot online and turned out to have very similar tastes in film which was great. She thought of me as more physically attractive than other men that responded. It really seems a very personal thing. She cheated on me eventually and got stuck in various lies, also had problems growing up and becoming loose from her parents.

But the bottom line is that I was just lucky. You can potentially send well written messages to 100s of girls on dating sites and still almost never get responses. If you're ever as lucky to get a date there's still a big chance of failure. That's life. We have to accept that it sucks by itself and try to make it better for ourselves.

Finding a mate, be it online or anywhere else, is extremely random, complicated, difficult, frustrating and depressing. Why do billions of men and women have to struggle and suffer without it leading to anything? It's all a big joke and not even funny. Despite this I'll keep trying because, at 32, the desire is still strong.

I met my ex online in a game. It was random luck at meeting someone 40 miles from me on a Korean online game, particularly someone over 30 like me. The ultimate result was devastating but that would have happened regardless of how we met.

I seriously doubt I will ever have this happen again.

The game thing did let us chat a lot before we met and it wasn't all working up to a date.

The online dating sites...didn't work out for me...seems there is so much "feeling out" and being picky that just actually meeting and seeing how it goes becomes too difficult. I found myself losing interest before I ever met the person.

i met my ex boyfriend who is the second best boyfriend i've ever had. dont have anything bad to say about him.
i met him on a hot line. i met him one night and 20 minutes later we had sex. he stayed with me for three years, he was that emotional supportive guy. i was over sensitive and he babied me. i can call him at any time for a pleasant conversation.
but all of your stories are nice. what are the odds!

Online dating NOT A GOOD IDEA.
I met my boyfriend on a dating website. After about six months of talking on the phone, we met and eventually decided to marry. I moved from three hours away to live with him and his two sons to find out that he and one of his sons are sociopaths while the other son is bipolar ... the same as my boyfriend's exwife. I spent two long years alone in his home during the day and endured two years of yelling, screaming and violence during the evenings and weekends. His ex wife of 14 years was so emotionally damaged from him that she left him for an illegal mexican who has no teeth and is already married to a woman in mexico. I cannot endure this much longer...want to die just to get away. My advice...the internet allows people misrepresentation. Dating in person is a much better way to determine someone's sincerity, morals, ethics and humanity. Online dating ... just don't do it.
