Q: Menstruation and conception
asked by: DoctorQuestion on May 9th, 2009
im a bit embarassed to post this but i really am at my wits end.

i am according to my gp 7 weeks pregnant.
my last period was 20th march 2009.
before this my perod fell on the 6th or 7th of the month, but it isnt unusual for my period to jump in blocks of months.
i was with a previous partner mr j and i tested to see if i was pregnant during the 7th march and until the 20th march and each time was negative. i then broke up with my partner mr j and started a new relationship with mr K and we had sex early april before the 5th april 2009 but after the 2nd april 2009 and my period was a no show on the 20th april and to our suprise i am now pregnant. now, we are planning a future but are both very anxious as to if my ex mr j could be the father even if the last time i had sex with him mr j was a couple days before my period had showed up on the 20th march 2009.

Pregnancy Calendar Conception : When did I Conceive ? Answer A6

No real period is possible after conception because the hormones change in order to start the pregnancy and to maintain it. Sometimes implantation bleeding might be present several days after conception, but this bleeding is usually light and does not last for long. If the bleeding you experienced looked very similar to your other menstrual bleedings then you might assume that it was real menstrual bleeding. However, if gestational age (length of pregnancy) is determined based on an ultrasound scan then it seems likely that the probability that your pregnancy is 7 weeks along is high. You might want to wait for another week and another ultrasound scan to see if the results show a different gestational age.

In the end, the only secure way to find out who the father is, is the paternity test.
