Sex hormones and hypothyroidism

I don’t think my current hormone therapy is quite the right "balance" for me and I would like your opinion. I was given Progesterone Cream 20mg daily and Estratest HS daily. I felt really well after about three days of taking the medication. Then after a few more days I began to have severe hot flashes and night sweats, a horrible headache, and I feel tired, lethargic and slightly "jittery”. Do these symptoms suggest too much of one of the hormones, not enough of one of the hormones, or do I just need to try something different? I know the balance of the hormones is critical and I feel like this balance is not right for me. I've tried to read up on which hormones cause which symptoms. They are all so interrelated and I get overwhelmed. When I return to my doctor I would like to be able to say "I believe I need less of hormone XYZ because of this symptom" or "I need more of hormone ABC because of that symptom". I would appreciate your opinion. Thank you

It is not that simple and easy to balance your sex hormones. Presence of hypothyroidism additionally complicates the condition. You may also have a neurotic personality that might worsen the condition, too.

Your symptoms can be due to any or all of these conditions: menopause, hormone medicines, hypothyroidism, and anxio-depressive disorder.

Menopause will cause you problems as long as FSH-levels are high. Hormone replacing therapy in fact decreases the FSH-level but you can’t expect to experience a benefit so soon. You can check the FSH-level after 1 month again to see if it is still high.

You may want to go to your gynecologist and tell him about your problems.
