Q: Menopause of stress ?

Lately my mom has been very aggravated, she gets angry over the littlest things anymore. She's almost 50 so I'm thinking it's about that time that she'll be going through menopause. She says that she doesn't know if she's getting her period, her cycle used to be consistent and on time every month, she always marks it on a calender. The month before last she did not have a period, ever since about 48 her period has been wacky, and last month her period was very faint so she didn't know if she should even call it a period. She is back in school now and very stressed out from that, but I don't think it's the only culprit.
Is my mom going through menopause? And if she is what kind of mood swings/other things should I watch out for? How does my family and I make it as comfortable as possible for her during this time?

Hi Maria.
It sounds like your mum could be going through the menopause, although she just may be stressed as you said she is back in school.
I was diagnosed with premature menopause a few months back (im 17) and I noticed that i was getting hot sweats all the time, even when it was freezing cold. Also, I have terriblbe mood swings where I will be happy one minute and literally 2minutes later I will be screaming my head off over nothing.
In terms of making it comfortable for your mum, she may not want to talk about it as she may be upset about not being able to have children anymore. Just let her know your there if she does want to talk, and try not to take her mood swings personally.
Hope this helps.

She may want to visit her OB-GYN for some hormone pills...She sounds like she may be starting this process in life...He will be able to tell her for sure...Good luck...
