I am a 53 yr old. I have had my period since 13 yrs. They were 5 days and regular. The last 3 years my periods have changed,. They were very, very heavy for almost a year. Now the can be a regular 4-7 day medium period to 3-10 days of spotting/brownish discharge.I have skipped as much as 3 months(2X in the last 16 months). I have hardly any hot flashes now, I have had some in the past. My mood, memory, eating are questionable at times, too.
I have not done permanent birth control and am thinking of the Essure procedure. It just seems silly if I would be with out my period with in 6 months, lets say. MY FSH was 17.6 (day 2 of a 10 day moderate spotting cycle) and my estrogen was 42.
Looking at my symptoms and blood work would one guess I was early perimenopaue or almost menopausal? I am tired of non permanent birth control and I thought I would be menopausal by now due to how long I have had changes in my period.

It is difficult to pinpoint the start and end of Menopause...Only a doctor can tell you about your birth control methods...For some women it is a lengthy process, and for others, like you, it is going swiftly...As for me, the fear factor of pregnancy would loom in the back of my mind....For I know as sure as I am sitting here, that if I had gotten pregnant at that age, that I couldn't have let that part of my husband and I go...Saying this, my advice would be: "be cautious"...

Best wishes,
Caroline

menopause vs Essure procedure
I would not want to take the risk of getting pregnant. It just seems so late in my reproductive years....to get sterilized now.I just don't want to wait for 2 more years plus for menopause to happen.

I agree...It does happen...My husband had a Vasectomy after our third child was born...I was cautioned not to have anymore babies...My blood pressure would go sky high during this time in my life and got to a dangerous level with the last one...Saying this, we didn't have a worry in this respect plus it gave for some hot freedom in our sexual life....However, if I was in your place, I would do exactly as you are doing....You are very wise...

Take care,
Caroline

I know of two women who had the Essure procedure done..There is a short waiting period, but it did not bother them...I know that I would have gone that way had I not had the convenience that my husband offered...It is better and less problem, IMO, than Tubal Ligation....Even if you go into menopause, there is always the risk of possibly getting pregnant...Honey, these are just my thoughts, but I think we need some freedom in our mind or the sexual act can be a act of fear of pregnancy...This is just how I feel on this..
