A good friend of mine has a bacterial meningitis.
On Saturday afternoon he told us he wouldn't join another friend's birthday party because he didn't feel well. He told us he had a fever and he was also shivering, while at noon he'd still been well. So he went home to get some sleep. His parents weren't at there, and so another friend came to see him at 7. Everything was still fine. When he didn't show up at a meeting on Sunday afternoon we started to worry, because we knew he was alone and nobody answered the phone. A friend knocked at his door but nobody opened. When his parents finally arrived at home, they found him lying in his room, having spasms. He was not reacting and his room was devastated. He was rushed to the hospital immediately and is now in a coma. It's still not sure if this is going to end up well, because nobody knows how long he had been lying there. The doctors are still testing and examining.
Should I go to the doctor and ask for antibiotics now, because I was kinda close to him the whole weekend. Close means we fought for a ball and I'm not even sure if we shared one water bottle.
I've read that this is a very contagious disease, so I'm scared now, of course, because this all happened so fast.
I'm hoping that my friend is going to be better soon.
What can I do?
