My relative has been presenting the following symptoms : fever, neck stiffness, inflamation in the back of the head, photophobia, and weakness. She had visited her family doctor and she also went throughout the Tap test (they took some fluids from her spine) and both said that she does not have meningitis. I wonder if they misdiagnosed or if these symptoms are related to another deases. The truth is that she is still on pain and fever and we don't know what to do! Please, help me!

Meningitis Answer A4125
Symptoms like fever, neck stiffness and photophobia are very suggestive for inflammation of the brain’s coverings (meningitis). That’s why examination of the cerebro-spinal liquor (CSL) is absolutely necessary to exclude or confirm the presence of meningitis. Increased proteins and inflammatory cells in the CSL suggest meningitis. Presence of maningeal symptoms without specific founding in the CSL (no meningitis) is called meningismus. Other infections can also cause meningeal symptoms and signs. An X-ray of the chest and blood analyses should be performed to identify the reason for these symptoms.

You should consult an infectologist about this.
