hello, i am a 21 year old who for the past 4 1/2 years been living with meniere's disease, at first it was very bad and not knowing what was happening had to spend all my money i had ($220) for a ear, nose, and throat specialist. he of course tells me theres nothing he can do, take these pills (serc) which i couldn't buy (broke, no immediate family to help) and come back in a month. i remember thinking if theirs nothing he can do why should i come back. it then slowly got better, no tinnitus or vertigo just a little bit of hearing had been impaired. this went on till three months ago, out of no where i suddenly went fully deaf coming back home from work. all i could hear was a high pitched (very unnatural sound) noise vibrating my inner right ear. i went back to the same specialist. another $220 and a useless 5 min discussion on my symptoms (by now i got alot of hearing back but lost a significant amount, always saying what or huh in conversations) , he put me in a box with headphones on to apparently see what tones i can hear. after this tells me i have irreversible hearing loss and i need hearing aids. at the time i got little bouts of tinnitus off and on. one thing I DEFINITELY NOTICED WAS MY TINNITUS SEVERITY INCREASED TEN FOLD THE SECOND TIME I SAW HIM. thoughts of suicide and self harm ensued. things no 21 year old should even consider thinking. now 3 months from being told all that and not going for the pills or hearing aids not listening to music or television, closing my eyes and focusing on the bugs, frogs and leaves in the wind outside when i get a bit of ringing has helped restore it back to normal and haven't experienced vertigo since the day after the second doctors visit. i dont think im going to go back to see him because i simply don't believe him.
how can i listen to a man who may have all these medical qualifications but still can't tell me how i got what i got. it maybe from this it maybe from that. until they really know their just taking $220 for a 5 min chat they are a joke. or you are for being so gullible. i swear their all laughing their heads off when we leave their office.

Hello Danoz..
I have had the VERY SEVERE tinnitus for over 10 years. It bites. Well, I may mean that literally, as for me personally, mine is a result of Late Stage Lyme Disease.
I have went to most all the ENT people here. Usually I get the impression that they'd rather not be bothered-just the $$ please. I have found that loud noises-anything can make it worse. I listen to soft sounds of the ocean or thunderstorms at night. It has nearly driven me insane too. I think the best thing to do it to just try to stay busy-keep your mind on something else if possible. I've considered an inversion table and a lot of other things but I don't think mine is going to improve.
I so wish you well-as I know how crippling it can be.

God's Blessings,
DogsRuleinKY
