Hi,
I am 18 years old and as of a few months ago I have started to notice a slip in my memory. Things happen today and I wont remember them the next day. i've also noticed in school we will learn something new and once I get it if we cover it within a few days I wont remember covering that subject. I've noticed a big slip in my memory especially when it comes to putting important things in places and within 5-10 minutes I wont remember where I put it. I am worried and afraid to say something to my parents because they wont take it seriously. I was wondering if maybe it had to do with stress, I havent been really stressed since school let out on the first friday in June. I just wish I knew what was going on because I can be in the middle of a conversation and someone say something about what we JUST said and I wont remember. I never use to be like that, I have always had a sharp memory and now its like its starting to slip away from me.

Are you "multi-tasking" in your memory? In other words, thinking about lots of things all at once? Sometimes when you do that, you won't remember some things. Stress has alot to do with it too, OR not actually paying attention to what we are doing, or really listening to someone when they are talking, because our minds are on other things. You are young, so you probably have alot on your mind that is more important to you than where you put something. Try not to stress about it, and if it continues, check with your doctor.

Have you been getting enough sleep? Are you on any medications or doing any drugs? Do you eat right (or at least get a somewhat balanced diet)? Have you had any head injuries? Even minor ones? Depression can also cause these symptoms, too. Is that a possibility?

If this keeps happening, I agree that you should check with a doctor. At your age, it's unlikely that it's anything serious, but you should still get it checked out. It could be something simple, like a vitamin deficiency (like B-12).
