My friend was just diagnosed with melanoma phase 0 situ last week and scheduled surgery in 4 weeks. His Doctor said she is going on vacation but when she gets back they'll take care of it. My friend is going along with it because he wants his Doctor to do the surgery. My question is the following: is that crazy to wait? If I was told I have cancer, I would want that removed instantly. I don't care what stage it is. His doctor said because of the stage, 4 weeks is no big deal. Please give me your opinion. Should I relax or should I push my friend to move up the surgery date. Thanks

Being very familiar with this disease, plus knowing the stages, your friend is in no danger...It still has not progressed to the growing down stage on the skin...It should really be an easy surgery...Not to worry as I am sure the doctor knows what he is doing...

Good luck,
Caroline

Get it off right away. Melanoma is a real killer. Most all of them start in situ but they grow down and get into the blood. You found it early so don't wait. The longer you wait the bigger the surgery. I know first hand about this.
