I am a 48 year old healthy white female. I had a mole removed from my lower calf @8 years ago and was told pathology showed a benign growth. I was also told it would probably grow back and might be larger and darker. That happened within the first year and I have had it ever since. My Internist is now concerned that it could be suspicious and my dermatologist can't see me for 3 weeks...so my question is does melanoma arise in a previously shaved mole. I was under the impression I had nothing to worry about and of course now am freaked that I left it alone this long. Thanks :
