i was told i was schizophrenic when i was 16. went through the meds and hospitals til i was 22. i was on resperdol, cojention, akeniton. my spelling may not be perfect lol but im sure yal know what i mean. i quit all my meds cold turkey like. had a breakdown, let me explain. it felt like something was leaving me clues to other clues and if i figured it out it would just be another clue to some other clue to something. i found myself tryin to fit ideas together. i got nervous cause what if i figured out what they where tryin to tell me. i know it makes no sence. now when i think back on it i see myself as crazy but at that time i really thought something was tryin to tell me something. im 29 now married with 2 kids and have a good job. i have not had any thoughts like i did when i was younger at all the past 7 years. my worry is could i relapse and if i did how would my family deal with it. my wife has no idea what i went though as a teen. i wanna keep it that way. maybe thats why i stay home alot and try to keep things simple. but for the truth though was i having a episode, will it come round again. or was the meds i was on the reason causeing my search for something. my friend told me this and its why i quite my meds. if the doc is wrong and i keep taking meds for schizophrenia it may make me schophrenic. just as people with adhd, it a normal person takes adderall it may make them have symtoms of adhd.

Why haven't you confided in your wife? How old are your children. When you would have these thoughts... What would happen or would you just shut down?

Why would you believe the opinion of a friend over that of a trained doctor?

i feel i was misdiagnosed, i think the meds they had me on made me think strangly like that, i hope anyways. i dont like being around other people. i feel sometimes every1 is talking bout me and putting me down behind my back but being a friend to my face. i dont even like going in to pay for gas at the gas station. could i possibly just be antisocial, or have social anxity disorder. it comes n goes but if i could i would be content just staying home all the time n never leave.

The sensation that everyone's talking about you is a common symptom of schizophrenia. As to the meds, they will not make you schizophrenic. The side effects are well documented and I doubt you will find any new discoveries. Dullness of thought, sleepiness, in the worst case feeling like a zombie, are the most common cognitive side effects of anti-psychotics, but they will not make you mentally ill, hallucinate, think strangely, etc. If you feel you've been misdiagnosed you can visit another doctor and get a second or third opinion. The common person will tell you very little of value as to your illness or medication, except provide support, shelter, comfort, etc.
