My grand daughter who is 12 has been diagnosed with pre schzophrenia (I am not sure if the doctors really know). She was in a treatment facility for 10 days and this is first day home. She was given her meds last night but this morning she told me she heard the voice again telling her to kill herself. She said she has ignored it but I am very worried. I don't live in same town but my daughter is trying to get her in to a doctor.

Are the meds supposed to take away the voices or is it a combo of meds and behavior modification?

Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't.

I've seen guys taking twenty pills a day and they hear voices and hallucinate all of the time.

A medication regimen you've only been on for a day isn't going to fix anything most likely. Neuromeds especially take time to effect change in the brain's chemistry. If after a month your daughter is still hearing voices it may be time to talk to the doctor about changing meds. I'll also say that at 12 it's pretty common for kids to hear voices when they're completely sane.

Be loving to your kid so that your voice is the one that counts, be patient with her doctor. Schizophrenia is difficult to treat.

I agree with wolf, love your child, but do you actually know how to do that?

I still don't get how these pills are helping with this problem.

And it's quite funny when they get scientific on you in those videos also, "you introduce this substance into the brain and it does this to this chemical and then you don't see or hear or believe things.", thats what those videos say to you people, they make no sense at all, and are very uninformative.
