Q: Medical Marijuana Program of California

The Medical Marijuana Program (MMP) was established to provide a voluntary medical marijuana identification card issuance and registry program for qualified patients and their caregivers. The web-based registry system allows law enforcement and the public authorization to possess, grow, transport and/or use Medical Marijuana in California. To facilitate the verification of authorized cardholders.

In 2003, Senate Bill (SB) 420 (Chapter 875, Statutes of 2003) was passed as an extension and clarification of Proposition 215, the Compassionate Use Act of 1996. The Medical Marijuana Program, within CDPH, is administered through a patient's county of residence. Upon obtaining a recommendation from their physician for use of medicinal marijuana, patients and their primary caregivers may apply for and be issued, a Medical Marijuana Identification Card. Senate Bill 420 also required that the MMP be fully supported through the card application processing fees. Both the state and the counties have authority to cover their costs for the program through these application fees.

I have a buddy in California who says that the dispensaries there are charging prices equal to black market marijuana. Is this generally true? Where I`m at, we can grow our own, have a licensed grower grow for us, or buy from another card holder. The law also limits what can be charged to only cover the costs associated with production of the product. We can also buy off the street if need be, but fifty bucks an eighth is ridiculous, even for sinsemilla.

I sure hope the gouge isn`t universal in Cali`s MMP?

That certainly is much better. I came up with an estimate for my indoor grow. The cost is around 20 bucks an ounce without trying to determine light bulb life and labor costs etc.
By law, growers and card holders are not permitted to sell above the production costs. Of course, that makes it very difficult to recruit growers for people without the ability to grow their own. There has been a growing number of arrests for over producing or dealing med pot to the public at large. Now the state has declared they want to take over production and tax mj at 98 dollars an ounce. OH BOY! I say, let`s just get this over with and sell mj as a regulated product like alcohol and tobacco. At 98 bucks an ounce tax, the price in the City by the bay would be around $195 to $200 and the black market could undercut that price. The reason given for interfering? Get this; too many growers are subject to being robbed. Yeah right on, you slap these guys on the wrist and turn them loose on me and use them as an excuse to increase tax revenue? Other than the fact that I have a little respect for the law left in me, where`s the incentive for staying within the medical marijuana laws in a system which refuses to appreciate good citizenship?

You said a mouth full there! Right On! Its ludicrous... Rolling Eyes I have about half as much respect for the law as I used to have...everything is a $$ making scam now a days..even the laws..
I am trying to grow my own but although it grows,it isn't worth using..it doesn't seem to be any good.I ordered seeds on line and they were like 10 bucks each..I ordered 6 and 2 grew, shriveled and dies.I really need a good lighting system...its getting so expensive that I am going to really have to consider growing my own..
