After having lumbar fusion, I was informed I was allergic to Ancef and should wear a medical alert bracelet indicating such. The actual surgery records say I "was given 2 gm of Ancef, but had an allergic reaction". It also says I was then "given Benadryl and then switched to Vancomycin".
I was reading on-line about Ancef, which apparently also goes under another generic name.
My question is this, what would be best to have on a medical alert bracelet? That I am allergic to ANCEF? Or should I use the generic name (I'd have to look it up again)? Or should it say both?
I appreciate your input!
Best Regards!
