Q: Medical Abortion Failed

Well I just got back from my check up. I did a medical abortion last week and the clinic I go to wants to see you in a week so I was in today.

I had high hopes that all went went. I had the bleeding, cramping, passing clots and everything! I wanted to blow off the check up because I felt fine but with a medical abortion how would I really know if it was successful without an ultrasound.

The wait was so long today at the clinic that I almost went home. Another woman was there for her follow-up and we talked each other into staying. We both had to wait about 4 hours to get seen! Anyway, it was a good thing we both stayed because the medical abortion had failed for both of us.

I was devastated. The doctor told me he could do the surgical or give me more pills. However, there were no guarantees that the pills would work again and I would be right where I started.

I chose to have the surgical because I just could not endure anymore more of this. I am sitting in bed now and I feel fine. I should have chosen the surgical in the first place.

I am sorry that it failed!

You can have the bleeding and cramping, and it can still fail..Sucks..I know.

I am glad you stayed for your follow up though, that way at least you know.

I was only about 3-4 weeks. I did not read this forum before making the decision. I would have done the surgical if I had known. I cost myself more time, agony, and money because I chose medical.

More time because of the extra visit, more money because the medical is $625 while the surigical was $440, and agony because I still had intense pain with the medical and intense pain during the surgical procedure. I drove myself so I could not be IV sedated.

I am happy now that it is all over. If I chose to do the pills again when they found the medical failed, I would have had to go to the clinic again today to see if it worked!

What an unpleasant experience! I told myself I was being punished for being careless and ending up pregnant.

I see, my friend had Surgical abortion last year and she almost fainted after they got done... so I thought to myself that medical would feel more like a "heavy period", it wasn't really bad for me since I knocked myself out with Vicodine, so I really didn't feel much because I was asleep for two hours. The part that really frustrates me is that i don't know if it's completed, or not... I have to wait two weeks for my next check up Sad Next week is spring break for me, i really don't want to go anywhere unless I know I'm okay, and safe! yeah I feel the same way about being punished for being careless, because i thought i wouldn't get pregnant since my fiance was only back for two weeks from iraq Sad

Maggiesun-

MOST BETTER clinics IV sedate women, so the procedure is PAINLESS.

Abortion with IV sedation is usually even cheaper than medical abortion.

Your friend was likely not "OUT" for the procedure, which is actually more commonly done.

I'm so sorry to hear what you have been going through. I had a surgical abortion 6 years ago that went very well. I hope that you undestand that you are not being punished for anything, sometimes things work for some and not others. My thoughts are with you.

I know exactly how you feel! I only had to wait one week for my checkup and I thought about whether it worked or not all the time. It keep telling myself it must of worked because everything happened the way everyone said it would.

All you can do is take it easy during spring break. The clinic said 5-8 out of 100 do not work. I hope you are in the 92-95.

Come back and let us know how everything went after the check up.

Whatever they call it
when, no matter what, you are married, have insurance, and it comes down to it being YOUR PROBLEM that you are bleeding whilst you are pregnant. Your doctor can just give you the ultimatum, "You stop that bleeding girl, or we are going to have to take that baby." And, you are still young. You have lots of time to get to know your husband, more time to have children. I could scream about that one!

When you are young, what do you know? It was our first child together, and we loved each other. The doctor turned out to be a jerk. Later on, he divorced his wife with five children for his nurse. Honestly tried to put the hit on me, a young woman. Now, honestly, when I asked him about our baby, he said he couldn't rememer if it was a boy or a girl. Please.
