Medical Abortion complete
Posted: 03-10-08 04:25am

Hi everyone Smile

I was 6 weeks pregnant according to first day of LMP which was 1/26/08, and took my first pill Mifepristone at plannedparenthood on thursday the 6th @ 2:20pm. I felt fine and came home, read every posts on here hoping to find a little bit more information and experiences other than what the doctor told me...
Friday 7th 12:00pm
I took one pill for Nausea as the doctor said two hours before taking Misoprosol;
then @ 2:00pm I took one Hydrocodone and one Motrin hoping it would help to ease the pain;
@ 2:20pm I took 2 Misoprostol orally, then lied down on the bed with a heating pad. shortly i started feeling like crap, so i got up and went straight to the bathroom. I was shaking because it was hurting really bad and I wanted to vomit. Two drops of blood came out, then that was it. so I decided to go back to bed hoping that the vicodine has kicked in, so I can just pass out and not feeling anything. Luckly it worked, I felt asleep for two hours not feeling one bit of it. When I woke up @ 4:20pm to take the last two tablets, there was NO cramps or pain at all! I went to the bathroom and passed out a lot of dark clots. after the 2nd set of pills I really didn't feel any pain just continued passing out clots that were not as big as the first ones...
now i'm just bleeding like a regular period with small blood tissues from time to time... I don't have any more cramps and haven't taken any medication other than the "DOXYCYCLINE" that the doctor prescribed me
my question is do you all think this medical abortion process is completed? I have to go back for a check up two weeks from now, but I really want to know the answer now! please help me if you had the same experience, because I really want to get back on track and make up all the school work that i have missed without worrying about "still being pregnant??"

I really thought my medical abortion was complete. I had all the cramping, passing clots, and bleeding that is associated with a medical abortion.

I went for a follow-up 1 week later and the ultrasound showed there was still tissue leftover. I decided do a surgical to finish the process right away. The doctor told me he could give me more pills but I could not bear the thought that the process was not complete.

In fact, another woman that was there on the same day as me also did not have a complete medical abortion.

I think the only way to be 100% sure that all is well is through the ultrasound.

You ALWAYS have to have a follow up visit to know for sure!!

Make sure you schedule one.

thank you guys for the replies!

if the sac is out already, why there are still tissues left over?? so the bleeding would stop if there is no more tissues left inside, correct?

No..

Bleeding continues even if the abortion is fully complete, most women bleed from 9-21 days after med abortion.

Surgical is a much better way to go..It is safer and more accurate.

the reason why I didn't get Surgical abortion was becuz I got really scared after reading how the surgical abortion is done at planned parenthood... even though i knew it is way more accurate than medical Sad
but I feel much more relaxed knowing that bleeding continues even if it's fully complete, thanks Carifairy!!!!!!

Planned parenthood is great for birth control, BUT not abortion.

They are more 'herdy' than other clinics, and they do not offer painless abortions with IV sedation.

ALTHOUGH PP is well known, there are so many 'better clinics' to choose from.

HOPEFULLY you do not have to go through it again, but if you or someone else does, I would say to find a better clinic.

yes i agree... PP does not offer IV sedation for surgical abortion, I seriously didn't know I am able to have a painless abortion with IV sedation... Sad I think that's why PP is cheaper cuz they dont offer IV sedation

Depending on the heaviness of the IV sedation, you are either "OUT", or you slightly aware but painfree.

Yeah, that is why they are cheaper :/

That is why I try to openly discuss my abortions and talk about options, because if you have never done this before, you do not know what is available.

how many doses should we do? after the first does we only had very little bleeding and little bit of clots. after 4 pills and nothing happens do we wait for bleeding or should we go and take another dose? how long b4 the next dose?

the pills take a long time to dissolve in her vagina. should i have her wash inside so it is more moist?

can i have her orgasm to help contract he uterus? does an ES machine work to make her uterus contract (placed on her tummy?)

she is 5 weeks preg.

carifaiy plz help. we live in a country where it is illigal to do this.

This is so scary that the medical does not always work. How does surgical work, do they cut into your skin on top of your stomach? Is the vaccum method effective? Do you still bleed lots after the vaccum?

NO CUTTING.

They insert a tube into your uterus and apply a vaccum for 60-90 seconds, then you are done.

They dilate your cervix slightly to help the suction cannula fit through.

You are sedated during this though, and feel very little, if anything.

You need a ride to the clinic though.

SURGICAL abortion causes WAY WAY less bleeding than medical abortion, which causes gushy type bleeding.

Surgical abortion is a much more effective and painless route. It requires only clinic visit and it's guaranteed to work the first time.
