Q: Medical Abortion - But Am I Pregnant?

Hello all...on July 21st I began bleeding from a medical abortion procedure. I had just taken the cytotec pills to encourage uterine contractions. The baby that I was carrying, well, I was miscarrying anyways and this sort of sped up the process.

Anyways, 2 weeks later, once I stopped bleeding, my husband and I had unprotected sex. I attended my post- ab follow up and it was clear that I had passed the embryo/fetus. There was a small blood clot or 2 left, but I was still lightly bleeding, so there wasn't much worry on the doctor's part. My body did clear all the tissue, however it has been slightly over 5 weeks since the onset of bleeding and my pregnancy tests are still coming up positive. When I say positive, I dont mean "lightly positive"..with a faint line showing up on the test...I mean I can take the test ANYTIME of day and POW..There's that line!! It shows up quick and dark. Shocked Now, I don't know if this means I am just holding on to the HCG hormones from the prior pregnancy or is this an entirely new one.

I've heard conflicting stories about the HCG staying in the urine for 8 weeks and on (which I do find strange when there is no living fetus producing the hormone)...but I've also been told that it is more typical for the HCG to decline shorter than 8 weeks. soo, I guess I'm just trying to get some feedback from some of you nice folks!!

Much Thanks
Dee Very Happy

You should go back to the doctor and make sure you are not pregnant.

i had an abortion and was advised that if i was to take a test a up to a couple weeks after the abortion then it would sure say positive, so i wouldn just take a visit to your GP, better to be safe than sorry

Hope all goes well
