Greetings! I have been reading this forum for quite some time and I would like to thank everyone who has given their input in certain questions/topics. It has helped people like me who have been long time lurkers and readers.

Allow me to give a brief history. 3 weeks ago, I did some heavy lifting because I bought some furniture for our home. I helped carry boxes of chairs, tables, a recliner and an ottoman. A few days later, I noticed a dull pain, almost like a mild discomfort in my left hip area. It would be more prominent when I lie on my left side. I did not really take it seriously as I thought it was just a bruise.

Today, I noticed the pain to be more prominent, more marked, like when I twist my waist or bed my back. I walk to work everyday and when I got to my workplace, I noticed that my left hip and left lower back area was very sore. Even when standing or sitting, there is this dull ache on my left hip/lower back area.

I went to see a doctor (GP) and she examined me. I told her the circumstances of my pain. She diagnosed me to have "Mechanical Lower Back Pain" and she advised me to take pain relievers/muscle relaxants for a couple of days. She advised me that if it gets worse, I should see my own GP for further testing.

I would like to ask you guys for your opinion regarding this. Has anybody experienced the same thing? And has anybody here been given that diagnosis? How has it been for you? Is it normal to have this pain more prominent in the left hip and left lower back area? Just one side?

Any input and/or advice would be much appreciated. Thank you very much.

You may consider seeing a chiropractor. They are specialists for low back and spinal pain. It sounds like you have "mechanical low back pain" due to muscle strain. Try some heat on the area for 15 minutes on and 1 hour off. Try NOT to stretch the area, as it will make it feel worse later on. Good luck.
