Q: MD and losing weight

My name is Jeni. I am 22 years old, I just got married in June, and now I want to start looking at having a baby. I have always had trouble climbing stairs, lifting heavy objects, running, gym class, etc. It isn't just one part of my body it is everywhere. Even the muscles in my face, I sleep with my eyes partially open.

Anyway, I was diagnosed with MD nearly 2 years ago, and I still have no answers. My Dr told me to lose weight, which I agree with. I am 180 lbs 5'4", and the more I weigh the harder things are. Pregnancy is going to have to wait. And I still don't know what type of MD I have.

So my questions are, have any of you successfully lost weight? What can I do?

And are there any women on here that have had babies? How did your pregnancy go? Was it difficult to move around near the end? How has it been raising your baby?

Any help would be much appreciated, I'd also love if you would introduce yourself. I have never met anyone with this disease before. How old where you when you were diagnosed? Most cases I have read they were children.

TIA

Jeni

pregnancy
i'm a 24 yo, i have MD for 6 years, i have since had 2 children... many of the same symptoms as you!

Pregnancy is much the same for the most of it, the only difference i found between me and other mothers is back pain is increased and difficulty moving towards the end, still manageable tho.
I would recommened continuing exercise throughout the whole pregnancy, i decreased my exercise with my first and significantly lost muscle tone, with second it was much less... my cousins also had baby (with MD) and agrees it helps to keep moving and maintain whatever you can!

Labour was fine...no problems...but everyone is different...

With raising them...it sounds dumb but i practised picking up a 5kg bag of potatoes while i was pregnant - just to give myself confidence in holding my baby safely and picking her up while supporting the neck etc.

Once they start moving its good but bad...they help you more, less reliant on being carried everywhere but also more difficult to chase... Its really just working out what works for you in every situation and you'll be amazed at how well you cope with everything life throws your way... trust yourself you can do it...lack of trust in my own ablility really held me back for years.
And remember you might not be exactly like other mums but that doesn't make you a bad mum, just different!

Having a supportive husband who understands that you may need a little extra help will make the world of difference.

Best of luck with everything...

Ruth
