Q: Masturbating or Anxiety causing Prostatitis ?

I was first diagnosed with prostatitis 18 years ago when I was 20. It was the most severe case that I have had to this day. Frequent urination when I could go, pressure pain in my anus, burning sensation when urinating but my worst symptom was the feeling of having to urinate but nothing would come out. I had the complete physical rectal examanation by urologist, whatever you call the exam where they jam that camera down your penis ( UGHHHH !) and was prescribed all the anti-biotics finally ending on cipro. Well nothing worked until I was visiting my Dr and the nurse quietly told me " hey I can't tell you this but if you want to fix your problem you need to go in the bathroom and take care of buisness." I was willing to try anything so I ran home and ran to the bathroom. What I found was semen that was a dark brown color and I also found much releief after 2 months of hell. I did it for the next 3 days until my semen was clear again and I was symptom free. Now I have had a few small flares up that would last maybe a day or two but thats it until now. About two weeks ago there it was again like 18 years ago. This time masturbating has not worked and even seemed to flare up my prostate more.My semen is a darker color almost a green/brown but then its never been snow white usually a pearl color. Now some background on my health. I recently had a complete physical just 3 weeks ago and everything was fine. I have for the last 20 years suffered from Anxiety but I have been able to keep it under control. I have been stressed at work lately and went to my Dr and he prescribed me Clonopin to relax a little more. My first question is could Anxiety be the reason for my Prostatitis ? Second I usually masturbate several times a week and I have read at least a 100 times that this is good for the prostate but could it be harmful ? I mean could my masturbating too much be why I have this problem with prostatitis ? Part of me wants to masturbate everyday thinking I will fix the problem by doing this but part of me thinks this will oly make the problem worse. My grandfather died of prostate cancer and my uncle, his son, suffers from prostatitis ....So whats going o ? Any help is appreciated Thanks !

hiya, i have the same problem (well for the most part). I have found anxiety is definately the cause. you get up tight and it makes your pelvic region up tight as well. Its awful and the anxiety keeps building because you cant figuire out what is going on and freak out. Try seeing your dr about using a long term anxiety med such as anti depressants. take a few epsom salt baths a week. also masterbate only a few times a week. I have found that every day makes me flare up but 2-3 times a week seems good for me. hope this helps!

If it's anxiety related, it's not likely prostatitis
I cannot say that masturbation has been deleterious to my prostatitis (likely, to the contrary). I was actually thrilled to read that others have the same problem that I so often experience (misery enjoys company). To me, it feels more like the sensation of someone having shoved a baseball up my behind. The pain sits there, and the area is incredibly tight and excruciating. The only thing that works for me is to jump in a very hot bath and take a clonazepam. The clonazepam is incredibly fast acting, and will cause the flare-up (which is really a form of an anxiety attack) to dissipate in about 15 minutes.
For years, I thought I had an enlarged prostate or some other prostate related condition, and was even scoped. The doctors were clueless, as they found nothing physically wrong with me. By an act of God, I went to the doctor for an unrelated illness and was unable to see my primary care physician. There was a visiting doctor from the University of Texas (a professor of medicine)who saw me. I explained to him my experiences and after looking at my chart he said, I guarantee its anxiety related. Id recommend that you take a clonazepam at the onset of any attack, and that will likely remedy the matter. He was right!
Another suggestion if you have a significant other who is willing, have her consider learning about prostate massage. It is not something you want to do daily, or even weekly, but I have learned that it is a wonderful form of preventative medicine.
