Hi, I am new here.

My son just turned 11 and Monday of this week he said mom I just went to pee and it was bloody. So the next few times that he went pee I had him flush the toilet before he peed and then not flush it so that I could go in and see what his pee looked like. The pee was pink. I looked it up on the internet and what I found was that it could be from something that he ate and it was advised to wait and watch it for 24 hours. I did and the pink went away.

On Tuesday he started complaining about his right ear hurting and I thought it was just because of water in his ear because we have been swimming a lot this summer. By Wednesday his ear was really hurting so I tried to call a Dr here in town. I was told that i couldn't get an appointment until next week so I called a Dr office in a town 30 miles away.

At the Dr appointment I had them look at his ears, which the dr said was just allergies, and I told him about the pick urine. So, the Dr immediately said that he needs a urine sample. My son gave them the urine sample and they put the little test strip in it. The nurse immediately starting asking questions like, Does he play sports?, Has he been injured?, the answer was no to all her questions.

the next day we went into the hospital for tests. The first was an renal untrasound, another urine sample, and blood work.

Today the Dr's office called and said that my son has a small mass on his right kidney and that the right kidney is larger than the left one. A specialist is coming to look at the results this coming Thursday and then will tell me what to do.

What questions do I need to ask the specialist? What are the possibilities of what could be wrong with him?

Hi

I'm sorry to hear this.
The doctor (specialist) will more than likely order a CT scan and go from there.

Hang in there. I know it's not easy..I've been through a lot with my own kidneys and my own children.

Ask:
What tests will be performed?
Do they have any idea what it is?

They will probably order more blood tests and a 24 hour collection.

I would hate to speculate as to what is wrong...I'm sorry.

Please keep us posted..my thoughts are with you and your son.

Welcome to e-health.
Yes. There are too many possibilities to speculate. I have kids too and it is always hard when they are going through something that we cannot fix ourselves. Our thoughts are with you. Please let us know how it goes.
