Hi.Im new here and was just wondering if anyone knows anything about marijuana affecting anxiety. I smoked marijuana a lot 2 years ago and feel as though i was bullied at the time. I've stopped now but since then i've felt as tho im in a dream like state and struggle to concentrate and have difficulty hearing in loud places. I have a bit of tinnitus aswell which doesnt help and can keep me awake. Ive been to see my doctor and a physchiatrist and they both came to the conclusion that it was caused by depression. Im not sure i agree with that though because i feel as though the depression is because of the symptoms NOT the cause. I honestly feel as though the marijuana has messed up my head and am struggling to think of any other reason for the symptoms. My doctor suggested it could be generalised anxiety disorder aswell but i honestly think hes clueless. Im on 60mg of prozac a day and have been on it for 6 weeks. No change in the symptoms though. Can anybody give me any advice?

Marijuana only causes short term anxiety as far as I know. I dont know of a single case ever that it has caused permanent effects of any kind.

the trigger
I have panic attack and generalized anxiety disorder and I woke up one morning with it and went to the emergency room. I've had it ever since and the trigger was cocaine, just one night and boom my brain chemistry is now permently messed up. I don't know if marijuana can do the same thing but their are things that trigger these types of disorders

Triggers don't mean that your mind is permemntly messed up. You may think that but I doubt cocaine or marijuana would (or could do that).

Anyways if you think it does then it probably will cause your brain and anxiety are like that.

As for Pot. I had to stop smoking because it increased my bodily sensations which led my hypochondria to trigger off.

I have gone through a similar experience to the above. Simply put, i experience severe anxiety and panic attacks. Feelings of euphoria and depression are frequent occurances and tend to happen at specific times of the day. Because, the chemicals within your brain are out of balance, your "Fight or flight instinct" is damaged, THC also alters communication between neutrons within your brain. These affects induce, paranoia, depression, and anxiety. And if not understood properly can lead to halllucinationa and other symptoms of psychosis.

Drugs offer a fair treatment. However, personally, equilibrium within the brain is delicate and the side-affects of such drugs may prove detrimental to your mental well-being.

To overcome this, you have to alter your outlook on life. Stop trying to rationalize your depression, anxiety or paranoia. Your mind feeds on your own rationalization and enhances these feelings.

Accept that you have a problem mentally and adjust the way you think about things. Always bring yourself into the present and simplyfy your environment. Keep yourself busy with positive things.

Eventually these feelings of anxiety, paranoia and depression will sub-side. With time, they WILL dissapear. Remember that

I've been experiencing pretty much the same feelings. I used coke about 2 years ago for a few months (on weekends) and one time had a panic attack and ended up in hospital. Later on after quitting I had another attack after drinking too much coffee one day, after this developed GAD.

I believe that the impact of these drugs are like a hammer blow to the head, takes a long time and i've had in a sense, to learn to walk again.

Medication helped in the short term but the real issue is pyschological, for that CBT helped and I spend more time exercising and relaxing now. I don't think that prozac is really a good idea, especially since the brain is such a complex bag of chemicals. We really do not know what else prozac does so i'd steer clear.

The anxiety feelings I have go from mild to high - depending how many things I need to deal with or especially after a few drinks.
