scared Hi, I am the mother of a three year old that has had loose frequent bowels since birth. The doctor did a stool sample and called me yesterday and told me that it showed malabsorption so, she is sending him for lots of labs including a sweat test. She specifically said that the pancrease wasn't absorbing fat properly and that one of the leading causes is cystic fibrosis but, she wouldn't tell me much because, she said she didn't want to scare me until we know what it really is but, I was wondering if anyone else has ever went through this or if anyone knows some of the other causes.
Thanks!

update:abnormal stool showing malabsorption with normal blood wo
O.K, so, my son has had blood work and a sweat test and it's all came back normal??? His doctor is going to redo the stool test and if it shows abnormal again then she is going to send him to a GI to see if they can figure it out. How can everything be normal when the stool is abnormal? What could be causing this? Is it possible for the stool to show malabsorption if nothing is wrong???
