In most cases, enlarged lymph nodes are the result of infection or inflammation in the body (the lymph nodes will "react" to such stimuli as part of their normal function).
However, in a minority of cases, enlarged lymph nodes can be a sign of lymphoma (a type of cancer that begins within the lymph nodes), or other types of cancer.
Your brother should undergo a thorough physical examination by a qualified doctor.
