Lymph Node Tuberculosis (Page 1)

Dear Doctor,

I have been diagnosed with TB involving lymph node (on left side of neck).
Previously, I had been taking 4 drugs (Rifampicine, Isoniazide, Ethambutol & Pyrazinamide), but after about 3-4 weeks of therapy, I found my lymph nodes enlarging more and extending towards posterior part of neck. My Doctor added Levofloxacin per day to the current therapy. Its total 2 months of therapy till now, I still have enlarged lymph nodes which are solid in nature & pains too. Pain extends to my neck and left arm. My doctor suggested me same therapy for total 3 months & reducing the number of drugs thereafter for next 6 months.

Is this a normal phenomenon?

Kindly suggest

Regards

Lymph Node
I am not a doctor but I have the same kind of TB on the right side of neck but my swelling has not swollen beyond the gland area and doctors have clearly told me to let them know if I think it is getting any bigger.
Lymph Node can be removed and in most cases doctors do suggest to remove it since it doesnt have any other purpose. You should google Lymph Node and check its function.
I would suggest you to get a second opinion.

khuranahbc, even I had the same problem. However I never felt pain, also the medicines prescribed by the doctor for my case were Rcinex, combutol, becosule, pyzina. I hope you have recovered by now as I see your post is of 2009, but if this helps others I would be happy.
My doctor removed the lump one month back, also I had one more tumor on the upper part of my thigh which was also removed. Also the medicines I took helped me a lot to reduce both of the lumps. Please consult your doctor to see if he can suggest you these medicines. The tumor that I had on my thigh started spreading to the near by area and it used to release a lot of pus, but it was taken care by the medicines.

Few months ago I've noticed a lump on my right neck, I went my GP and has referred me to the ENT consultant, I was sent for biopsy & was diagnosed with TB in my system, I'm waiting for the X-ray to be done, I'm really worried about it could it be that I've been misdiagnosed as I've no syptoms whatsoever.

Hi,

Even we face the similar problem, My mom has similar problem and she was diagnosed in KIMS too, could you provide me more details if your mom is cured. Helps us a lot.
Below is our Case:

In September while on IV fluids she became unconscious and we admitted her in KIMS.
Doctor advised for meningitis diagnosis and report showed suggestive of chronic minigitis, she treated with AKT 4, oflox with assistance with another Doc (pulmonologist).
She had a good response for AKT4 initially, but after 2 months use she developed problem in vision. Then Dr .Nalini advised to stop AKT 4 and we started R-cinex 600mg, Rotacap (Dec 2011).
In the month of January she developed a lymph node, but they thought it’s a cold abysis and tried treating with anti-biotics, for which there was no response and we went for FNAC culture, Ultrasound Neck, CT Neck the reports for which suggested (T*)
Then doctors suggested that we go for 2nd line medicines.
We approached Dr. Vijay bhasker, who diagnosed atypical microbacterium and treated for 2 months (Feb and March) with medicines (*), and advised for lymph biopsy which suggested (*) but there was no response.
**We also went for FNAC culture which suggested that there was resistance to Rifampicin
Then we approached another doctor at Yashoda who again diagnosed atypical microbacterium and suggested that we use the below medicines.
KANAMAC injection (kanamycin)
MACBUTIN 300mg (rifabutin)
CLARIBID 500mg (clarithromycin)
MCIN 400mg
SOLONEX 300 mg (isoniazid)
After using the above medicines from April - till date, there’s again a new lymphnode emerged and also the blood HB levels came down to 7.
Then doctor suggested us to stop using MACTBUTIN, CLARIBID / CELEX OD, just ruling the cause of drug induced problems, and suggested that we take 2 units of blood and 2 units of albumin, which we took after getting admitted in yashoda.
He also advised that for FNAC ** and to repeat the CBP after 2 weeks…and based on the result he said we need to go for Bone marrow test????

Can you guys suggest, If we are moving in the right track based on you experiences, we are totally exhaused with our brains with medicines not responding

My right lymp node was infected by TB 7 years ago.
It was swollen as a size of lime.
It was burst and green/yellow liquid was leaking out for hours a night before an operation.
I do not know if I still have that lymp node or it's just gone..
I was taking 9 and 1/4 tablets a day for TB treatment.

During the treatment:
I did not have any problem with eating or loosing weight.
However, I slept all day and feel exhausted all time.

The side effect I still have are as followed:
Low immune system
Easy to get sick- irritated throat, swollen upper gland below my jaw on the same side.
Aching joints and bone. I reccomend to take vitamin D and calcium.

Please eat and rest well. Your treatment will be completed quick..

REg. TB in the lymph
You should take care that you never skip any of your medications. Then there is no chance that the lymph nodes enlarge.,.. But if at all the infection rate is too high then there are chances that it enlarge. In that case you should immediately bring it to the notice of your doctor.. But dont worry the lymph node can be removed and then continuing the medications you would be relieved of TB.

I too was had lumps on right side of my neck. A biopsy was of the lump and it wasnt cancer so I had a TB best done and it was very robust and told most likely I TB. So I started the Rifampin, Isoniazide & Pyrazinamide. Six weeks later I became very ill from the medication which made my liver enzymes increase rapidly and very high. I couldn't eat or drink and rapidly loss weight, I was very weak and unable to walk. I was off work for almot 2 months. Finally got my strength back by the 5th week of remaining home. I had another biopsy and they grew the bacterium and I was diagnosed with TB. My problem is the physician continued to try five times to get a regimen of medication to work for me without success. So, I am no longer on medicine and haven't been for over two months. I got see another specialist who may tell me, to just wait for the symptom to return and then go from there as did my past TB specialist physician told me. Is there someone out there who is going through what I am... Please let me know. FeelAlone

i had the same problem, pain on my right neck since may, i visited the doctor and prescribed me an antibiotic but it didn't work. the doctor request a biopsy so we did it. i just got the result yesterday and stated that tb of the lymph node. te doctor reffered me to another doctor that specialized in this area, the doctor assured me that im not contageous but it is possible in rare cases.if not treated it may lead to or go to the lungs and its more difficult. this disease aquired in a long exposure from the infected person, trace the source for them to be treated as soon as possible if they don't know.
i can't believe this because no symptoms at all, its just the lump on my neck. im not convinced to have this so i decided to boost my imume system to fight the disease if in case. i will post in the future if successful.

Lymph Node Enlarged; Mantoux test positive; No Fever, No Cough
Hi Magnifico .... Please tell us your update. I am facing exactly similar problem as yours. Tell me whether a Lymph Node Biopsy is necessary .... I have 2 enlarged lymph nodes on right side of my neck(~1.5 cm each). My mantoux test has appeared positive. However CBC and ESR are normal. Doctor has advised a biopsy of the lymph node. Am a little scared as this situation can be a symptom of TB or Lymphoma(cancer). Can you please update us of your situation. Other members who have faced such situations can also guide. Whether I should go for biopsy. Is it safe? Is it conclusive? Please post on thi ssite and if possible also mail me your response
Thanks,
Sandeep

Hi,

I have been taking medicine for Lymph node TB from the past 7 months. But no relief yet. I had 4 lymph nodes in my neck and all were ruptured and closed except one.
Puss is still coming and there is pain too. Now I have no fever and gained my wait back. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to cure the TB completely?. What could be the reason for endless puss.

lymph node tb
Hello,
I have same kind of problem. I had been treated for 6 months. I want to share with you what doctors told me. After complete Tb medication my lymph nodes again swollen and pus came out from these. I was afraid that I again has this problem. The doctors carried out a biopsy and realized there is no culture of tb and concluded that the dead bacteria came out as a result of medication. Till date i am ok with very small swelling in that area. so dont worry it is a normal reaction of your body that dead bacteria ic coming out. for me it took about 6 months for the pus to come out. other features are like yours the weight is ok. no fever. have patience and dont go for tb medication again.

Re Occurance
Dear Friends,

Sadly I was infected with this problem in 2007 dec and then underwent treatment fro six months initially and then when the swelling did not sbside and grew further i continued the treatment for another three months so in all got treated for nine months with the prescribed drugs. at the end of seven months of treatment i was operated wherein the doctor carried out open drainage of the lymphanode and repeatd the same till it healed back to normal. I was back to fittness and remained so from mid Jun 2008 till Jan 2012.

Unfortunately in end jan 2012 i developed a problem in my tooth and underwent re-filling of an old cavity, this resulted in the swelling up of my lymphanode in a similar manner as it was earlier during its initial stages, now after more than three weeks since the swelling has reoccured i see the lymphanode growing slowly, but unlike in my previous instance this time although the lymphanode is hard but it is paining some times and causes discomfort to me. I have not noticed and sweating, fever or loss of weight during this period.

1. I am extremely worried as to what could be the reason of this reoccurance ??
2. Am I experiencing a relapse of my old problem ??
3. Will i Be required to undergo the long treatment again??
4. What will be my future ??? will i ever get rid of this problem ??

Anyone who has been through this... please try to respond and help me out.
Regards
Raju

Lymph nodes tuberculosis
Dear friends,

The doctor suspected I have TB on lymph nodes , no 100% test was made for sure as the biopsy was a joke, they didnt do the culture. I had allergy to the Pyrazinamide so instead I took floxin . After 2 mo and a half ( because I had to skip some days ) I went to twice a week with iso and rifa , last weekend my plateles went down and I had to be interned in the hospital for a trasfusion. During my stay at the hospital the doctos all agreed that my case was only suspition and they did not undersatand why I was taking those medications. IS THERE ANY TEST WE CAN CONFIRM TB OR EVEN IF IT IS GETTING BETTER ...SOMEONE MENTIONES A ESR TEST....NEVER DONE ON ME....I feel terrible since the begining of the treatment...actually I got worse EXTREMELY weak for the first 2 mo...still not feeling OK, People with TB in lungs get to feel better in a month or two, why is it that I am not feeling any better..? My lymph node almost desappeared... slight tiny bump. Thank you !!!
