Enlargement of lymph nodes might be caused by an infection (bacterial or viral), inflammation in the surrounding tissue, cancer metastasis, or blood cancer. The last two are easily diagnosed with blood tests and would cause many complications if untreated for 6 years. The inflammation usually causes an increase in the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). The infection is usually characterized by an increase in the leucocytes (white blood cells).
Considering all the tests that have been done, you might talk to your doctors about a biopsy of the lymph nodes at the moment when they are swollen. This might determine the proper diagnosis and the further treatment.
